Tamal is a leading business journalist, known for his weekly column published in the Mint newspaper – ‘Banking and Finance Banker’s Trust’. He has been a member of the core team since HT Media launched Mint over a decade ago and currently also serves as an expert columnist with Business Standard as well. He is also an adviser to the Jana Small Finance Bank. He is also the author of a few best-selling books on finance, including ‘A Bank for the Buck’, ‘Sahara: The Untold Story’ , ‘Bandhan: The Making of a Bank’ , ‘HDFC Bank 2.0 from Dawn to Digital’, ‘Pandemonium: The Great Indian Banking Tragedy’ and the most recent being “Roller Coaster : An Affair with Banking”
With over four decades of experience in the banking, securities and insurance sector, he has served at board- level positions in IRDA, SEBI and various companies of the ICICI group. He is known for leading initiatives of innovation in the Insurance and Securities sector.
Fellow member of the Chartered Accountants and Company Secretaries of India, he has worked with multinationals such as Unilever, Electrolux, Pepsi, Telstra and Heinz. He retired as MD & CEO of Forbes & Company Ltd. and is a former president of the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, MC Member of ASSOCHAM, and former visiting faculty of IIM (L).
